Pressure on India by Trump

A phone conversation took place between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump. The White House revealed in a statement that several issues, including strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, were discussed. Topics such as defense equipment purchases from the U.S. and bilateral trade were also mentioned. It appears that Trump is increasing pressure on India in this regard. As part of the discussions, the White House confirmed that Trump urged India to increase its purchases of defense equipment from the U.S. and suggested establishing a fair bilateral trading relationship between the two countries.

The White House stated that this would benefit both nations. It is well known that India faces several security challenges from its neighboring country, China. China is advanced in weaponry and defense technology, which is why India has decided to strengthen its military and defense systems in response. India is contemplating the acquisition of modern defense equipment to bolster its capabilities.

India needs significant upgrades in fighter jets, submarines, tanks, helicopters, and assault rifles. The country is also lagging in defense technology. At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government is encouraging the domestic production of defense equipment and weapons. The military has been advised to support companies working in this direction.

On the other hand, Trump criticized BRICS countries, including India, for imposing high tariffs on U.S. goods. He stated that this harms the U.S. and warned that, in retaliation, the U.S. would impose 100% tariffs on goods and services from India, China, and Brazil.
