Sam’s Southern Eatery Set to Open New Wichita Spot with Drive-Through Service

A Third Location Brings New Taste

Sam’s Southern Eatery is gearing up to open its third Wichita location, offering a unique twist on its beloved Southern-style dining experience. Emanuel Ashiedu, a software engineer from Salina, revealed that the new restaurant will be located at 6121 E. 21st St. This building, which started as a Long John Silver’s in the 1980s and most recently housed Clouds — a daiquiri lounge turned Mediterranean restaurant — will soon welcome fans of Southern cuisine.

Drive-Through Service Debuts

For the first time in Wichita, Sam’s Southern Eatery will feature a drive-through service. Though this location will be smaller than its predecessors, Ashiedu is excited to test this new concept. The drive-through will offer a limited menu, including favorites like fried catfish, jumbo fried shrimp, and po' boy sandwiches. Those opting to dine inside will have access to the full menu offered at the other locations.

Classic Southern Flavors

Established in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 2008, Sam’s Southern Eatery is celebrated for its rich, Southern-inspired comfort food. Popular menu items include fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, crab cakes, chicken wings, and fried oysters, offering a wide variety of flavorful choices.

Growing Presence in Kansas

Ashiedu and his brother-in-law, Charles Scott, have been steadily expanding the brand’s footprint in Kansas. Their first Wichita restaurant opened in early 2024 in the former DeFazio’s space near 29th and Amidon, followed by a second location at 6600 W. Central later that year.

Future Plans for Expansion

The east-side location won’t be the last. Ashiedu is already eyeing Wichita’s south side for another drive-through spot, continuing the chain’s growth and commitment to serving up quality Southern fare.

Set to open in mid- to late March, the new location promises to combine convenience with the authentic flavors Sam’s Southern Eatery is known for.
