How the OSRS Combat Calculator Works
The Old School RuneScape combat system uses a formula that takes into account your combat skills to determine your overall combat level. Our osrs combat calc tool applies the official Jagex formula to give you accurate results.
There are three possible combat formulas depending on your character's focus:
1. Melee-Based Combat Level
If your Attack and Strength are higher than your Magic and Ranged:
Combat = (Attack + Strength) × 0.325 + Defence × 0.25 + Hitpoints × 0.25 + Prayer × 0.125
2. Ranged-Based Combat Level
If your Ranged is higher than your Attack and Strength:
Combat = Ranged × 0.4875 + Defence × 0.25 + Hitpoints × 0.25 + Prayer × 0.125
3. Magic-Based Combat Level
If your Magic is higher than your Attack and Strength:
Combat = Magic × 0.4875 + Defence × 0.25 + Hitpoints × 0.25 + Prayer × 0.125
Pro Tip: The highest possible combat level in OSRS is 126 for regular accounts and 123.75 for pure accounts that avoid training certain skills.

Combat Level Brackets in OSRS
Understanding combat brackets is crucial for PvP and certain PvM activities:
Combat Range | Typical Account Type | Common Uses |
---|---|---|
1-40 | New players, skillers | Early game content, safe PvP |
41-70 | Mid-level accounts | Slayer, beginner bosses |
71-100 | Main accounts | Most PvM content, mid-level PvP |
101-126 | Maxed accounts | End-game content, high-risk PvP |
Did You Know? Some worlds restrict access based on combat level. For example, the Wilderness bosses in level 50+ wilderness require at least combat level 100 to enter.
Advanced Combat Level Strategies
Experienced players use the osrs combat calc to plan specialized account builds:
Pure Accounts
These accounts minimize defence to stay in lower combat brackets while maximizing damage output. Common types include:
- 1 Defence Pures: 1 Defence, high Attack/Strength
- Range Pures: High Ranged, low other combat stats
- Magic Pures: High Magic, often with Ancient Magicks
Voiders
Accounts that complete the Void Knight quests to get powerful armor while maintaining specific combat levels for optimal PvP matchups.
Zerker Pures
Accounts with 45 Defence (to wear Berserker Helmet) and carefully balanced other stats to dominate specific combat brackets.
Our OSRS Combat calc help you experiment with different stat combinations to find the most effective build for your playstyle.
