Vijayawada: It is well known that during the previous government's tenure, 33,686 sarees were reported missing from Indrakeeladri. Allegations have been made that the conduct of officials did not change even after the change in government. In this context, the police have intensified the investigation into the saree scam. It has already been confirmed that irregularities occurred in the sale of sarees offered by devotees to the deity. It has been identified that corruption worth crores took place during the sales between 2018-19, and a cash scam of Rs. 1.68 crores was found.
However, the responsibility for the saree sales was managed by the EO and the Junior Assistant. In this regard, the police issued showcause notices to the then Junior Assistant Subrahmanyam and the then EO Bhramaramba. Subrahmanyam approached the High Court regarding the showcause notices. Upon hearing Subrahmanyam’s petition, the bench directed that an inquiry be conducted by the district endorsement officer. The court also ruled that no penalties or actions should be taken until the full inquiry is completed.
Regarding the saree scam allegations, Subrahmanyam had previously been suspended multiple times by the Endowments Department, but with the support of YSRCP leaders, he was reinstated. An investigation into the scam is currently ongoing with a special committee. As the committee is set to conduct an inquiry on Indrakeeladri today, key orders have been issued from the High Court. This has provided some relief to Subrahmanyam.
