Year-Round Indoor Swim Lessons Sacramento, CA
Steve Wallen Swim School has been teaching swimming lessons and water safety for over 30 years to students of all ages and skill levels. Our school started as a small backyard swim program out of our home in Folsom, California, where we ran the program for 20 years. Since that time the school has grown into one of the most popular and respected swim schools in the area. In 2008, we opened our doors to a beautiful state-of-the-art indoor facility in El Dorado Hills, California, to meet demand and offer year-round swim instruction to our students. From infants to adults, Steve Wallen Swim School has the experience and the expertise to design a program to meet your specific needs. We offer private, semi-private, group, and parent-tot swim lessons, as well as swim clinics, to students in El Dorado Hills, Folsom, Cameron Park, Granite Bay, Roseville, Elk Grove, and the greater Sacramento area.
Infant Swim Lessons for Ages 5 Months to 24 Months
Our infant swimming programs are offered as parent-tot swim lesson for ages 5-24 months. Once a child is approximately 24 months old we recommend either a private or semi-private swim class without a parent in the water, in order for them to get the most progression out of their classes. Often times it may take a student 3-4 classes to get comfortable with their instructor and the pool, but even if a student cries in the beginning, these classes are productive and will not be traumatizing for the student. We currently have students that are less than 24 months old that are considered “water safe”, meaning if they were to fall in a pool, they would have the ability and alertness to put their face in the water and swim back to the wall for safety. In our infant swim lessons, we focus primarily on water safety and water awareness skills in order for our students to develop more confidence in the water and potential life saving skills. Our parent-tot swim lessons are a great first introduction to the water, and make for an easy transition to a private class where one of our trained swim instructors can work with them independently.
Private Swim Lessons for All Ages and Abilities
Our private swim lessons are ideal for any student that prefers more one-on-one interaction with their instructor in order to achieve the most progress in every class. These classes allow for students to work with an instructor independently for the entire 30 minute class. From infants, to toddlers, and all the way to adults, many students prefer this type of coaching in order to maximize their full potential and get the most out of each and every swim class. We believe that different personality types are suited for different lesson types, and we can help determine which type provides the best structure for each individual student to learn.
Semi-Private Swim Lessons for Kids and Adults
Once a student is over 24 months of age, has gained confidence in the water, and is able to show attentiveness with their instructor, they are able to participate in our semi-private swim lessons. Our semi-private lessons are the most popular swim class at our school, with private lessons at a close second. In a semi-private class, there are two students in a class with one of our trained swim instructors. Often times this pairing of students is beneficial, as they are able to learn from one another and motivate each other to succeed. We schedule many siblings in a semi-private swim lesson, so that they can participate together and make each other feel comfortable. Siblings may be at entirely different skill levels, but because our class sizes are so small, our swim instructors are able to work with each child individually on their specific needs.
Group Swim Lessons
The largest swim lesson class we offer at Steve Wallen Swim School is our group lesson where there are three students in a class with one of our trained instructors. Many of our older students prefer a group swim class because when it is not their turn to swim one-on-one with the instructor, they can be given a task to do on their own. In a group class, each student will receive approximately 10 minutes of one-on-one interaction with the instructor. It is because of this that we prefer only older, more advanced students participate in group swim lessons, so that the younger, less advanced students are not simply waiting on the step for their next turn. Group swim lessons offer students a great learning environment by pairing them with two other students with whom they can work, compete and succeed.
Swim Clinics Emphasize Stroke Technique and Efficiency
Our swim clinics are offered for more advanced students who are able to swim an entire lap of freestyle and backstroke on their own. In these clinics, there are 6 students in a class with one instructor. The instructor is on the pool deck coaching during this swim practice, similar to a swim team format. Swim clinics emphasize stroke technique, endurance, starts/dives, flip turns, open turns, and other racing strategies, offering the most up-to-date knowledge and techniques.
